Samsung appears poised to surpass Apple in the race to shrink display bezels. While the newly released iPhone 16 Pro Max boasts impressively thin bezels, a recent leak suggests that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature even slimmer bezels, potentially setting a new industry standard.

The leak comes from reputable tipster Ice Universe, who claims that Samsung has managed to reduce the bezel size of the Galaxy S25 Ultra by 0.2mm compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 Ultra. A leaked image shows a comparison between the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, with Samsung’s device displaying a notably thinner bezel.

However, precise measurements remain unclear. While the iPhone 16 Pro Max was rumored to have bezels as thin as 1.15mm prior to launch, no specific thickness figures for the Galaxy S25 Ultra have been confirmed. This type of data is rarely published by manufacturers, leaving us reliant on third-party sources. Based on the renders provided, though, it does appear that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature bezels that are slightly thinner than those on the iPhone 16 Pro Max, though the difference is marginal.

The leak does not offer insights into the bezel dimensions of the Galaxy S25 or Galaxy S25 Plus. However, Ice Universe has also shared a graphic showing a comparison between the frame thickness of the standard Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. According to the leak, the Galaxy S25 camera bump is 1.8mm thick, beating the 2.4mm thickness of the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s bump. Additionally, the Galaxy S25 is expected to be 7.2mm thick, an improvement over the 7.6mm thickness of the Galaxy S24.

One notable design feature is the unique shape of the camera lenses on the Galaxy S25. The renders indicate a “double-layer design” on the cameras, featuring a lip around the lenses reminiscent of a Super Mario warp pipe. This design is expected to apply to both the Galaxy S25 and the Galaxy S25 Plus models.

If Samsung follows its usual release schedule, the Galaxy S25 series is likely to debut in January 2025. Rumors suggest that the lineup will include similar design elements across the standard model, with additional RAM for all three models and several design modifications for the Ultra variant.

As we await official confirmation, this latest leak positions the Galaxy S25 Ultra as a serious contender in the race to deliver cutting-edge smartphone design, particularly when it comes to bezel size.
