In a statement, Verizon acknowledged the issue, saying, “We are aware of an issue impacting service for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and we are working quickly to identify and resolve the problem.”

Customers across the affected regions reported their devices entering “SOS mode,” a signal that phones were unable to connect to the Verizon network, but could still make emergency calls.

Reports on outage-tracking platforms showed the number of affected users reaching over 100,000 at its peak. Many took to social media to voice their frustrations, making Verizon a trending topic. Customers also raised concerns about the inability to use services that rely on mobile phone verification, such as two-factor authentication for bank logins or work accounts.

Verizon’s engineers are working to restore normal service as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, other major telecom providers like AT&T confirmed their networks were functioning normally, despite some cross-platform connection issues reported by customers.

The disruption is part of a day filled with news in the telecom sector, following a major acquisition involving Dish Network and DirecTV.
